On the East Sutherland coast of the Moray Firth in the north highlands of Scotland, Culgower House offers tranquil, contemporary, high quality bed and breakfast in a traditional setting.
Culgower House lies between Brora and Helmsdale on the scenic coast of East Sutherland and has glorious views over the sea. It is a Victorian farmhouse, built around 1850 and now a beautifully refurbished, and increasingly sustainable, family home where we offer warm hospitality.
We aim to provide you with a great place to stay; at the same time we are committed to working in a sustainable way and to reducing our impact on the environment. For more details, please see our website.
We are ideally placed for exploring the north highlands of Scotland or as a stop on the way to Orkney.
We do not have a bed and breakfast sign but have slate house signs on the wall.
From the south, take A9 from Inverness to Thurso. Keep on A9 for 56 miles (90 km), through Brora. After 5 miles (8 km) you will pass a small village sign for Loth. Continue on A9 for another 2 miles (3 km), past a church below the road on your right and past a small direction sign for Lothmore on your left. Take the next turning left off the A9 (a further 400m), our drive leads sharply up on your left from that junction.
From the north, take A9 through Helmsdale and Portgower. Outside Portgower you will pass a large stone marked ‘West Garty Farm’ on your left. Continue for 1 mile (1.5 km), turn right off the A9 after the ‘road narrows’ road sign. Our drive leads up in front of you from that junction.
