The UK's Favourite All Year Round Resort

CairnGorm Mountain is home to Scotland’s only funicular railway. This is a unique visitor experience that allows people of all abilities to reach the Top Station where the Ptarmigan Restaurant is located with panoramic views from over 3,500ft. There is also a viewing terrace, exhibition, shop and the highest post box in the British Isles. In order to protect the plateau out with our snowsports operation, funicular passengers are not permitted to exit the top station to go onto the mountain unless they are booked on a guided walk or a guided mountain bike descent.

Why not explore the beauty of Cairngorm Mountain on foot with one of our spectacular guided walks? The mountain offers an abundance of flora and fauna that will delight even the most casual observer as well as some of the world’s most breath-taking views. Available to walkers of all ages and fitness levels, our guided walks make this spectacular alpine-arctic landscape accessible to all.

Guided Ridge to River Bike Descent, this ride takes customers on an exciting descent of 3,000ft from the Ptarmigan Top Station down the Hill Track and then off-road down into Aviemore passing the scenic Loch Morlich on the way. This descent will take approximately 4 hours.

Cairngorm Mountain is the UK’s most popular ski area; there are 11 ski lifts at the resort, including the funicular railway, serving 11 green runs, eleven blue, ten red and three black. The longest run stretches for around 3 kilometers from top to bottom.

CairnGorm Mountain is in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, around 2.5 hours by car from Glasgow and Edinburgh and approximately 1 hours drive from Inverness. Aviemore is only 9 miles from CairnGorm Mountain and is well connected to the road, rail and bus networks. The overnight sleeper from London stops in Aviemore en route for Inverness and both CityLink and Stagecoach operate regular bus timetables for the area. Travelling around by private car offers more flexibility but we always ask visitors to consider car sharing whenever possible.
