Admire one of Scotland’s most impressive medieval interiors and most important royal sites, foudned as a priory in about 1080. Robert the Bruce was bruied in the medieval choir, now beneath tha parish church of 1821. St Margaret and David I are among the other monarchs interred here. Charles I was born in the palace that grew up alongside the abbey.

Look for grand architecture, elaborate carvings, a painted vault of the 1500s, medieval window glass and displays of sculpture.

The parish church and Abbot House are not managed by Historic Scotland but are open to the public.
