Here you can relax and admire the magnificent mountain views, or immerse yourself in the scenery with our leader-guided and self-guided walks.

Your Holiday

Complete with minstrels’ gallery and ornate public rooms, Monk Coniston is set in fourteen acres of beautiful grounds, which include a stunning Victorian Walled Garden and a significant conifer arboretum. Stay in the estate owned by Beatrix Potter, and eventually acquired by the National Trust, and explore the surroundings that inspired so many amazing stories.

Accommodation

Monk Coniston’s 32 bedrooms offer a range of views, from the calm panorama of Coniston Water to the majesty of the Coniston Fells.

Dining at Monk Coniston

Featuring locally sourced produce (including fruit, vegetables and herbs from the Victorian Walled Garden), our full board holidays are designed to delight your taste buds. Take in the views from the lounge, enjoy delicious home cooked meals in the restaurant and relax with fellow walkers and adventure seekers in the bar.

Walking at Conistonwater

Our walks echo with the footsteps of William Wordsworth, John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. Discover the scenes that stirred their imagination with our range of guided walks exploring the Lake District National Park, not just a stunning natural environment but also the world’s first Fair Trade National Park Zone.

If you prefer to explore on your own, our Discovery Point is full of maps and detailed walks to allow you to plan your self-guided walks. However, you’re never truly on your own, as our experienced and friendly leaders are available for questions in the bar each evening, with fellow walkers, for ideas and inspiration.

Like all our Country Houses, Monk Coniston is tailored for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts with a boot room and drying room. We also offer storage for bicycles and the local bus stops at the end of the drive.
