Straven Guesthouse provides comfortable rooms with hearty breakfasts for accommodation in Edinburgh. Guests can explore the rich heritage of Edinburgh by day and relax with an evening stroll on the promenade. There is an excellent bus service which can transport guests into the city centre in 20 minutes. We can happily accommodate cyclists who will enjoy the cycle routes and the bike friendly promenade in Portobello. The guesthouse is run by Chris and Sinead in their Victorian home without staff so a personal service is guaranteed.

There is an excellent and frequent public transport facility to easily transport you from city centre to the corner of our street and a shuttle coach service and tram service operates from Airport to City Centre.

By bus, train or plane: From the city centre Lothian Bus No. 26 from outside Jenners Department store  on south St Davids Street. This is a  very short walk from the train station and disembarkation point for the airport coach. The bus will deposit you at St. Philips Church, Joppa just at the corner of our street. The service has a five minute frequency during the day and remains regular into the evening and will whisk you from city centre to our street in a mere twenty minutes. A taxi from city centre to our door is about thirteen pounds.

By car: Approaching Edinburgh on the A1 go straight through first roundabout coming into Edinburgh (with Asda store on left – signed “Portobello”). At the next traffic lights turn right (Signed “Joppa” ). Turn first left into Brunstane Road, down to the bottom, cross the Abercorn Terrace junction and we are on the left. Approaching Edinburgh by a route other than the A1 proceed East on the South city bypass(A720) all the way to the Oldcraighall junction where you take the turnoff left for Edinburgh East and North and thereafter follow instructions as for the A1.
