1¼ miles from Allendale in the North Pennines AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
Set in farmland, mainly grazed by sheep and wildlife, with two small woodlands plus a new area, recently planted with 1200 broadleaf and native trees. Stunning views, starlit skies with walking/cycling from the door. Swallows Rest is a barn conversion offering a comfortable modern feel – wooden floors in the bedrooms and living room, LED lighting, free-sat TV, i-pod dock and wi-fi.
Swallows Rest is on single floor with central kitchen-living room – very well equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge area. The two bedrooms (both with zip & link beds which can be arranged as either 6′ superking or twin beds) are both en suite. Ample outside sitting out area with small wild flower meadow and car parking for two cars.
Own water from spring/bore hole. An air source heat pump heats both the cottage and hot water with solar panels additionally heating the water. We have a wind turbine and photovoltaic panels and thus your stay with us can be considered as very earth friendly.

Set pretty much in the centre of the country between Carlisle in the West and Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the east. We suggest using either the A1 or M6 to the junction of the A69 and then head for Haydon Bridge. At the eastern end of the Haydon Bridge By Pass, take the A686 towards Langley, then the B6295 towards Catton. As you come out of Catton take the right hand fork , continue on until you come to a junction, (known locally as 5 lane ends) Take the third turning signposted to Ninebanks, our entrance is approx 800 yards on the left hand side.
Train: Mainline stations Newcastle and Carlisle. The Newcastle to Carlisle track runs through Haydon Bridge and Hexham. Hexham Station, Station Rd, Hexham NE46 1EZ. Tel: 01434 601 610 (From Hexham Station walk, cycle or take a taxi up the hill to the bus station on Battle Hill – approx half a mile.)
Bus: The 688 bus that goes from Hexham to Allen-heads stops at the square in Allendale at various times during the day. Tel: 0191 420 5050
The 658 bus runs from Newcastle to Carlisle via Hexham. The X85 runs from Newcastle to Hexham. Travel line 0871 200 22 33 (calls will be charged)
