Tyddyn Retreat - The Mid Wales Venue and Holiday Cottages
Tyddyn y Pwll
Beautifully converted from a 250 year old working farm, we have an inspiring workshop/meeting space, two stunning stone cottages, a summerhouse, tipi and stone circle, plus a laundry, drying room, cycle rack, an d horse stabling. We are dog friendly. We offer a sense of luxury, with the highest eco standards and little extras, including a steam shower, personal sauna and massage.
We are extremely proud to have a 5 Star grading from Visit Wales, as group accommodation.
Tyddyn Retreat provides working and accommodation space for meetings, trainings, small conferences, leadership retreats, awaydays, business development conversations, family and group gatherings – whatever our guests can imagine,. Holiday guests can enjoy their own private cinema in the workshop space while staying in the cottages. Everyone can make the most of our magical land and multitude of outdoor seating options. At night the dark and starry skies are spectacular.
We can offer workshop space for 60 people ‘theatre style’ and 90 for parties or similar gatherings. The accommodation is for up to 25 people (+ the tipi and camping). Each cottage sleeps 6 or 7, in the bedroom, crog lofts and studios + extra foldaway beds if needed.
The stunningly converted stone barns are now cottage accommodation filled with light and natural materials. Stylish while comfortable, with high beamed ceilings, oak floors, locally crafted furnishings and cozy wood burners.
Tyddyn Retreat is a private and secluded hideaway that is also easily accessible – Caersws station 15 mins, and directly off the A470 ‘backbone’ of Wales.
All the building conversion works have been designed with sustainability in mind. The highest insulation values are achieved with Welsh sheep’s wool and recycled Warmcell; the walls are 3 layers of traditional lime plaster on woodwool board; the finishings include lime pointing, recycled slate, oak floors, locally handmade oak windows, doors and furniture, handmade ironwork in curtain rails, door catches and hinges, and specially programmable eco lighting.
Heating is via solar water, two arrays of PVs, ground source and wood burners. Bedding & towels organic. Cleaning/laundry products eco.
We encourage our guests to travel by train and other public transport where possible, providing a collection service from Caersws (15 mins), and running our own range of tours from Snowdonia to Brecon, making the most of the landscapes, history and fantastic activities that Mid Wales offers.
We are proud of our Silver Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and are active members of Green Holidays in Wales, The Dyfi Biosphere Tourism Association and the Cambrian Mountains Tourism Network, each working hard to promote sustainability.
Tyddyn Retreat has been expressly designed to offer accessible accommodation, bearing in the mind the wide variety of accessibility needs that our guests may have. The Lower Barn cottage has an accessible wheelchair entrance and bedroom and kitchen/dining area, and a wonderful wet-room next to the bedroom.
At Tyddyn Retreat we do our best to think of all that our guests will and might need. We regularly imagine staying in the accommodation (and sometimes do!) and spend time in the workshop space, to see and feel what else might make the experience even better. “You’ve thought of everything” is commonly said. We genuinely welcome new ideas from our guests.
We will soon be offering a range of packages – including accommodation, tours and films in the workshop cinema. Here are some of the themes:

• history, culture and sites of special interest
• action adventures
• Little Trains of Wales travels & memories.
