Hand Picked Hotels has reached a major sustainability milestone: 21 properties across the group have upgraded their Green Tourism award, recognising the brand’s continued commitment to more responsible, lower-impact hospitality.
Green Tourism is a sustainability partner that assesses businesses against rigorous criteria across three key pillars, People, Places and Our Planet – looking at everything from environmental management and community impact to resource use, waste and biodiversity action.
Following a series of award upgrades that began in September and have continued until now, Hand Picked Hotels’ portfolio includes:
- 6 Gold hotels
- 14 Silver hotels
- 1 Bronze hotel

A group-wide effort, built on everyday improvements
Sustainability in hospitality isn’t just about grand gestures. Often, the biggest progress comes from the consistent, practical decisions made behind the scenes and Hand Picked Hotels has been focusing on exactly that.
As shared in a recent LinkedIn update, efforts across the group have centred on:
- Reducing energy use and waste
- Supporting biodiversity
- Sourcing responsibly from local and ethical partners
- Helping colleagues and guests make lower-impact choices day to day
It’s a programme designed not only to strengthen environmental performance, but also to improve the guest experience in tangible ways, from smarter operations to more considered supply chains.

“A shared focus on practical, everyday improvements”
Reflecting on the achievement, Ignace Bauwens said:
“Taking part in the Green Tourism process has been an important step for our hotels, helping us identify the areas where we can make the most meaningful environmental impact. It has brought our teams together with a shared focus on practical, everyday improvements that enhance both our guest experience and the way we care for our surroundings. We’re delighted with the progress we’ve made so far and look forward to building on this success as our sustainability journey continues.”
Ignace Bauwens, Group CEO, Hand Picked Hotels
Recognising Hand Picked Hotels incredible effort, Andrea Nicholas commented:
“The hotels within the Hand Picked group have shown exemplary dedication to their green journeys, having been encouraged and driven by their head office. We’re proud to be working with a business who recognises that sustainability should be – and is – at the forefront of their daily operations, and look forward to continuing to work with them on their goals and celebrate their achievements”
Andrea Nicholas, CEO, Green Tourism.
