Green Tourism criteria contain destination related indicators which help support destinations in delivering a sustainable tourism product. These might be through local community or payback initiatives, supporting local infrastructure such as transport routes, heritage trails and event or supporting local suppliers, food and drink and crafts.
Green Tourism works with a range of destinations to help support their sustainable tourism initiatives. Specific indicators may be used to help deliver practical change and raise awareness of tourism developments in the local area and gain business support. Destinations vary in their impacts and opportunities from city centre locations to rural and island destinations. Green Tourism celebrates the leading sustainable tourism destinations involved with the Green Tourism Programme and assess their corporate offices and tourism information centres as they join the initiative.
